Remembrance Tea Party at Cygnet Aspen House

At Cygnet Aspen House, Activity Coordinators Emma and Mandy organised a Remembrance Day themed tea party. Service users helped decorate the service with poppies from recycled materials, as well as being encouraged to write a personal message to our war heroes. In addition, one of the service users started the process of knitting poppies which were sold to staff to raise money for the poppy appeal. In total she knitted 7 poppies which raised £35.00. Support worker Alison also helped out knitting further poppies and together they raised a grand total of £83.50.

On the day, volunteers from The Salvation Army and The British Legion were due to join the ladies for a Remembrance morning and Afternoon Tea, however due to unforeseen circumstances they cancelled at the final hour. The ladies went ahead with their plans, with one of our service users opening the morning by sharing some personal written poems with everyone. Following this everyone sang songs from the war era including ‘Over the rainbow’, ‘We’ll meet again’, ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ and ‘A long way to Tipperary’ with some of the older service users shedding a tear or two. A remembrance day quiz was then held, before the Therapy Team served the service users and kitchen staff a very well presented Afternoon Tea.

The kitchen staff don’t often get to join in with events, as they are usually working behind the scenes to put on amazing food, so even though they still pulled out all the stops for the day, they got the chance to enjoy the event with the ladies.

Well done everyone at Cygnet Aspen House once again!
